The UK's second home market will grow by £53bn over the next decade, according to a report by Direct Line and the Centre for Future studies. The number of people buying UK second homes will rise by 24% to 405,000, 156,000 more than abroad. Horse racing fans David and Sandra Hunt are repeating a purchase of a David McLean property they made when they first got married 20 years ago, but now to use a holiday retreat and second home. So what was it that is making them come full circle into buying a holiday home at the company’s latest development in Chester?

We’ve run our pub, the New Inn Pontblyddyn, for seven years, and as much fun as it is, we do sometimes need to get away from it all and that’s what our apartment will provide. We love going to the races too, so with this apartment, we’ve got a fun, relaxing weekend sitting on the doorstep, whenever we feel like it.

Sandra and David purchased their original David McLean home just after they got married, and this in part drove their decision: We loved the time we spent in our original home, and we had never had any problems with it at all, so we decided to take the plunge at the Racecourse Apartments because we could see from the show apartment that the quality we had in our old place had been maintained into the new developments. We’re big horse racing fans, so this home is our idea of a great holiday home. Our teenage sons even liked it, which is saying something!
